What equipment and clothes do I need?
You'll need a mat and comfortable clothes. Yoga mats are a little sticky which helps you feel more stable in the standing poses. You can find them around town at stores like the Superstore, Lululemon or online from Halfmoon. I also have a couple loaner mats. You'll also want to wear clothes that are comfortable enough to sit cross-legged and bend forward in.

I'm not flexible, can I still do yoga?
Yoga does many beneficial things besides stretch your hamstrings. And you don't need to be flexible to start - that's like saying you need to be able to run a 5 km race before you take up jogging! Corilee provides modifications so that all poses can be done by everyone. You're always encouraged to accept your body as it is.

Can yoga help me feel less stressed out?
Absolutely. Yoga is a mind/body activity which means it works on many different levels at once. Anytime you do yoga the poses and breathing techniques work together to release tension from your body. When your body feels more open, relaxed and energized your mind will feel more calm. Over time, the concentration and focus that we practice in class will help you stay more balanced outside of class. Also, as you learn to cooperate with your body you'll find it easier to take care of yourself.

I have a past injury, can I still do yoga?
If your doctor doesn't have any concerns, you're welcome to join the class. Let Corilee know so she can suggest modifications to the poses to ensure you're comfortable.
